The joining work a sheet metal shop actually runs.

HVAC, ductwork and sheet metal is one of the largest industry groups in our customer base. That is not a marketing line — it is who calls us. So the questions we get are the ones your shop asks: which machine sets this joint, what tooling does it take, and is there one on the floor right now.

Most people who call have a drawing and a joint, not a machine catalogue. That is fine — describing what you are fabricating is enough for us to point at the right machine and the right tooling.

Section 02 / Two processes

Riveting and clinching

Two ways to hold sheet together.

We deal in machines for both. Which one suits a job depends on the joint, the material, what the assembly has to look like and what you are already set up to run.

Process A

Riveting

A fastener is set through the sheets and upset to form the joint. Machines range from impact and squeeze-type rivet setters through to orbital riveting platforms, which form the rivet head progressively rather than in a single blow.

Rivet type and size drive the tooling — the anvil, jaws, pocket and driver have to match the fastener as well as the machine.

Process B

Clinching

The sheets themselves are formed into an interlocking joint. No separate fastener is consumed, which changes both the consumable picture and what the finished joint looks like.

Clinching machines are a long-standing fixture in sheet metal and duct work, and they are part of what we stock and refurbish.

Section 03 / Condition

Graded before it is offered

You should know what “used” actually means.

The fair question about any refurbished machine is: what condition is it really in? We grade every machine on the same four-step scale and we tell you the grade up front, including when the honest answer is “this one is a parts machine.”
